Ride the Habitat 500
“The ride is both a physical challenge but more so a wonderful, uplifting, enlivening tour through our beautiful state of MN. It’s a great and worthy cause: decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need of adequate housing.” –longtime Habitat 500 Rider
About Riding in the Habitat 500
The Habitat 500 is a bicycle ride (not race) and fundraiser that covers up to 500 miles over the course of 7 days. Most of our participants ride the full 500 miles over a week, but there are also shorter options to ride for three days or one day if a week is too long!
This year, with the Ride going virtual, your route and distance is more flexible than ever before. This means, anyone can ride and raise funds and awareness for Habitat for Humanity!
The actual virtual events are still scheduled to take place July 12-18, 2020, so mark your calendars! It’s going to be a memorable ride.
Riders must wear a helmet at all times while on a bicycle.
Please watch our safety video before starting your ride. Our sincere thanks to the committee members and volunteers who put the video together! Find the video here.
Registration Fees & Payment Options
Every rider pays a registration fee to help cover the costs of the ride. Payments can be made online or by mail.
- $50: This is the reduced registration fee for the virtual Ride.
- $300: As many of you know, the time and resources that go into planning the Habitat 500 Bike Ride are substantial. Planning for the in-person 2020 Ride began in September of 2019. If you are able to pay it, this higher registration fee will help Habitat Minnesota cover costs already spent on Ride planning.
Either fee gets you your rider packet (including button, bike plates, safety instructions, and a rider gift); your own peer-to-peer fundraising page on OneCause; resources and guidance on fundraising; access to all virtual events and programs held during July 12 – 18, 2020; and helps to cover administrative costs involved with putting on the Ride.
If you choose to pay via check, please enter “PayOffline” as the coupon code during registration. Please mail a check (written out to “Habitat 500”) for the appropriate registration fee amount (see chart above) to the following address:

Habitat 500 Cancellation Policy
As an outdoor event, all aspects of the Habitat 500—food, entertainment, and events—are subject to weather and all registration fees are non-refundable for any reason, including weather-related cancellations, postponements of all or part of the activities associated with the Habitat 500 Bike Ride, unforeseeable circumstances, or riders’ personal conflicts or circumstances.
If you register and pay for the Ride and are unable to participate, your registration fee may be transferred to another rider, provided this is done at least two weeks prior to the start of the Ride. It is the responsibility of the rider cancelling their participation to find another rider to transfer their registration fee to. No registration fees carry over from year to year.
As stated in the Habitat 500 waiver signed during registration, each rider/volunteer’s participation in the event is subject to the sole discretion of Habitat Minnesota’s representatives. Should you be requested to discontinue your participation for medical, safety, or any other reason, you must immediately end your participation and carry out such directives as issue by Habitat Minnesota.
