“The ride is both a physical challenge but more so a wonderful, uplifting, enlivening tour through our beautiful state of MN. It’s a great and worthy cause: decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need of adequate housing.” –longtime Habitat 500 Rider

About Riding in the Habitat 500

The Habitat 500 is 500 mile bicycle ride. Most of our participants ride the full 500 miles over a week, but there are also shorter options to ride for three days or one day if a week is too long!

The 2020 Habitat 500 will take place July 12-18, 2020. Our welcome/orientation meeting is scheduled for July 11 at 7:30 PM, with a new rider orientation meeting scheduled for 6:30 PM.

Safety

All riders must check in at Rest Stop #2 and the overnight location. Riders must wear a helmet at all times while on a bicycle.

Please watch our safety video before starting your ride. Our sincere thanks to the committee members and volunteers who put the video together! Find the video here.

Thanks to the addition of our route planning sub-committee, established prior to the 2018 Ride, our route received a 98% approval rating in our annual survey! This is the highest approval the route has had in four years.

The routes below are still in progress. Routes are subject to change up until the very beginning of the Habitat 500 Bike Ride. Riders will receive final directions upon arrival at check-in.

As an outdoor event, all aspects of the Habitat 500—food, entertainment, and events—are subject to weather and all registration fees are non-refundable for any reason, including weather-related cancellations, postponements of all or part of the activities associated with the Habitat 500 Bike Ride, unforeseeable circumstances, or riders’ personal conflicts or circumstances.

If you register and pay for the Ride and are unable to participate, your registration fee may be transferred to another rider, provided this is done at least two weeks prior to the start of the Ride. It is the responsibility of the rider cancelling their participation to find another rider to transfer their registration fee to. No registration fees carry over from year to year.

Should you be requested to discontinue your participation for medical, safety, or any other reason, you must immediately end your participation and carry out such directives as issue by Habitat Minnesota.
