Information for Youth Riders

Virtual Ride Youth Riders

Because this year’s event will be “held” in communities all over the country, there are no age restrictions for the 2020 Virtual Habitat 500. Any age rider can sign up. We strongly recommend adult supervision of any rider under 18. Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent or guardian sign their Ride waiver for participation.

In-Person Youth Riders

While we love to encourage people of all ages to ride bikes, participants in the Habitat 500 must be at least 13 years of age. Family members of volunteers and riders are welcome to join us at the starting and finish lines, as well as at evening activities in our overnight locations. You can find general guidelines for minors interested in participating in the Habitat 500 Bike Ride below.

General Guidelines

  • Riders between the ages of 13 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.
  • For youth groups participating and riding together, one adult must ride with each group of five youth cyclists.
  • Cyclists between the ages of 13 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times and may participate only if they are judged to have a proven record of long distance biking experience.
  • Each youth cyclist must carry with him or her at all times a signed medical release form (signed by a parent or legal guardian) which gives the rider’s accompanying adult permission to authorize medical treatment for the youth. Emergency medical treatment for an injured youth cyclist may be delayed if the medical release form is not available.
